Roadway Project Engineer, PE

10-4 Engineering PLLC is a Chicago-based structural engineering firm specializing in bridge and structural designs for transportation projects. They are seeking a licensed Roadway Engineer with 7-15 years of experience to lead roadway design work and help grow their roadway practice.

Responsibilities

Lead development of roadway designs, horizontal & vertical alignments, profiles, sections, details, etc
Create geometric layouts for highways, roads, and interchanges that meet standards and client needs
Prepare final plans, cost estimates, quantities, and specifications for bidding and construction
Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, drainage, and traffic disciplines as needed
Support permitting processes and contribute to feasibility studies, reports, and project documentation
Help project managers with scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring quality deliverables
Communicate with clients, agency contacts, and other stakeholders to streamline project delivery
Mentor junior engineers and help shape a roadway team that works together and delivers great results

Required

Licensed Roadway Engineer with 7-15 years of experience
Based in the Chicago area or willing to relocate
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Must hold a PE license in Illinois
At least seven (7) years of progressive roadway design experience, ideally with IDOT or Tollway projects
Prior experience and close familiarity with IDOT and Illinois Tollway design manuals and standards
Strong and hands-on experience with Microstation and OpenRoads Designer on design projects
Experience preparing full plan sets, specifications, and cost estimates for bidding and construction
Clear, confident communicator who can present ideas and coordinate with clients
Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects at once
Care about mentoring others and being part of a small firm where your ideas and contributions matter
