Responsibilities
Design of metal building systems by applying established engineering practices, model building codes, and company standards
Work in a team environment with estimating, sales, and drafting to define, clarify, and process projects to meet customers’ needs on individual projects
Review project plans, specifications and building code requirements
Convey design information to drafting, using written and verbal communication
Assist sales, project managers, architects, and builders to determine project requirements and proper utilization of Behlen systems to meet customer needs
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design
If not already licensed, work directly under licensed engineers toward licensure
Qualification
Required
B. S. Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
5+ years of experience in building design, with a firm grasp of steel
Ability to demonstrate design of medium to higher complexity buildings including but not limited to cranes, mezzanines, parapets, hangar door system support
Proficiency with AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, and model building codes
Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
Continuous productivity improvements without loss of accuracy or completeness, reduction of manufacturing and drafting costs, and increased ease of erection and customer value
Ability to manage projects beyond the design phase through project completion
Ability to manage several overlapping projects
Train and mentor less experienced engineers
Preferred
P. E. Registration strongly preferred but not required
S. E. Registration strongly preferred but not required
Experience with MBS preferred but not required
