Represent cooperative boards that benefit from the Business Judgment Rule under New York law, providing a significant legal advantage compared to standard landlord-tenant representations
Work on matters where legal fees are recoverable, leading to stronger case outcomes, better client results, and reduced friction over litigation strategy
Experience a higher rate of successful outcomes, including possession, compliance, and enforcement, resulting in more frequent positive client interactions
Handle cases that are often focused on conduct, governance, and quality-of-life issues rather than purely financial evictions
Represent volunteer board members acting pursuant to fiduciary duties, not profit-driven landlords, making the work more ethical and community-centered
Develop sophisticated legal skills at the intersection of landlord-tenant law, corporate governance, fiduciary duty, and contract interpretation
Build long-term relationships with experienced boards and managing agents who value strategic legal advice and become repeat clients
Qualification
Required
3-5+ years of experience as a litigation associate attorney
Experience in landlord-tenant law
Experience representing community associations, cooperatives, condominiums, and commercial property owners
Ability to handle meaningful client interaction
Responsibility over matters from intake through resolution
Regular court appearances
Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
