Sirius Staffing is seeking a Refinery Process Engineer for a direct hire opportunity. This role provides operations support, technical guidance, and troubleshooting for refinery processing units and operating systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and profitability of operations.

Responsibilities

Perform process monitoring on day-to-day operations and advise management and engineering of any issues that may be developing

Identify and troubleshoot process limitations/problems and lead in resolution

Follow trends in operational data and identify potential problems in early stages, communicate suspicions, and work toward avoidance resolution

Assist Operations in unit or system start-up, shutdown, and preparations for equipment maintenance

Reduce existing processes' costs through energy conservation, unit optimization, etc

Identify needed design or operational changes to maintain the effectiveness of the processes

Advise Management of operational changes needed to achieve process goals and requirements

Perform PSM functions including HAZOP participation, resolution of HAZOP recommendations, MOC preparation, and review

Assist Operational Specialist in the performance of their duties

Assist Operations in the development of unit and system procedures

Assist operations and mechanical personnel in resolving issues they encounter

Assist in training, especially the technical aspects of the processes

Identify changes that are needed to improve the safety, reliability, profitability, etc. of process units or systems

Develop and design attractive process units or system changes

Prepare MOCs and obtain support and/or funding for changes

Assist in the commissioning and troubleshooting of unit or system changes

Assist in the improvement of unit and system procedures

Become aware of all environmental rules that apply to units and systems and assist in compliance with the laws and regulations

Assist the Environmental, Health & Safety Department technically during the maintenance of regulations and in the development of new/or changing regulations

Assist all other organizational departments where technical assistance is required, specific to the processes and systems

Proficient in engineering/design software

Lead formal root cause analysis discussions to ensure effective solutions to prevent recurrence

Assist in the development and growth of technical and hourly personnel

Required

Must have a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from a four-year university

3-6 years of experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or related industry setting (Natural Gas, Asphalt, Oil/Lube, Midstream/Pipeline Operations, etc.)

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder)

Strong understanding of refinery processes and related operations

Proven experience in refinery planning or process equipment design

Demonstrated ability to optimize operations, improve profitability, and reduce costs within a refinery

Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Effective collaborator, able to work with management, engineers, and hourly personnel

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead training sessions of 2 to 20 participants

Proficiency in refinery process simulation and design software

Ability to work in a team environment

Leadership and motivational skills for peers

Self-motivated with the desire to learn and develop new skills

Exhibit a 'can-do' attitude and spirit of cooperation

Support management objectives

Subject to periodic 'on-call' duty and non-scheduled call-in

Subject to periodic turnaround technical support, including holidays and night shifts

This position requires the individual to be certified to use respiratory protection, which includes: fresh air work requiring a tight-fitting full-face mask and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing up to 35 lbs
