Responsibilities

Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
Leads implementation of strong advanced elementary programming within school
Builds capacity with classroom teachers through professional development, collaboration, and ongoing support
Embraces and implements inclusive practices with AIG and advanced learners through co-teaching with classroom teachers and working with students
Engages in collaborative planning with classroom teachers and grade levels
Utilizes research-based gifted curricular resources and strategies to appropriately challenge and engage AIG and advanced learners
Nurtures academic talent and potential in young learners
Manages all state and district required compliance procedures for AIG students, including Differentiated Education Plans and testing for gifted identification
Maintains accurate and current documentation for gifted identification and screening
Provides ongoing job-embedded professional development for staff through co-teaching, modeling, and participation in collaborative planning sessions
Designs and delivers professional development sessions around best practices in gifted education, gifted curricular resources and strategies for staff
Clearly communicates with all stakeholders, including families, building leaders, and teachers
Meet and exceed expectations of Board of Education and state-approved CMS AIG Plan
Disseminates information around gifted education and opportunities to all stakeholders
Perform related work as assigned or required

Required

must be AIG-licensed
NC Science 6-9 and 9-12 licensure
ability to teach Grade 8 Science, Earth & Environmental Science & Biology to highly gifted learners
Bachelor's Degree in education
Clear North Carolina Educator License
Three or more years of elementary (K-5) teaching experience
Knowledge of best practices in gifted education, including identification and instruction
Understanding of North Carolina AIG Program Standards
Expertise in the growth and development of AIG learners
Knowledge of social-emotional needs of AIG learners and strategies to support needs
Ability to analyze data and develop appropriately challenging learning experiences for AIG and advanced learners
Strong collaboration and coaching skills
Possesses strong leadership qualities
Skilled in differentiating instruction for AIG and advanced learners
Knowledge and experience utilizing gifted curricular resources and strategies
Strong content knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCoS)
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
Possession of or ability to obtain North Carolina Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Add-On Licensure (88087)
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings

Preferred

Experience teaching gifted and advanced learners
Masters degree in Academically Intellectually Gifted or related area
Participation in organizations for gifted educators, such as National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and North Carolina Association for Gifted and Talented (NCAGT)
