Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Programmatic Group Process Engineer will work with SMEs to implement and maintain Department of Energy standards for operation in nuclear facilities, ensuring the safety and functionality of analytical equipment. This role involves interfacing with facility engineering and maintaining the baseline of analytical equipment crucial to the plutonium pit production effort.

Responsibilities

Assists with the research, design, testing, analysis, verification, and validation of engineering and technology solutions in support of R&D initiatives
Develops a technical approach, using judgment within defined practices and procedures, and makes technical decisions, including making preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives, for assigned work
Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects. May directly contribute to the achievement of programmatic objectives
Maintains facility engineering baseline for analytical equipment in Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities
Maintain/troubleshoot/repair instrumentation
Completes LANL Process Engineering certification
Provide technical leadership in developing, implementing, and/or documenting institutional Engineering Processes, Engineering Standards, and Engineering Training and Qualification programs for facility, programmatic/R&D and nuclear weapons related design and production work
Work closely with other process engineers and the quality team to ensure quality requirements are met through engineering envelopes
Provide engineering mentoring to scientists and engineers in training

Required

Knowledge of and experience in engineering disciplines
Knowledge of and experience in designing, planning, and executing research and development projects
Demonstrated experience working in a team environment and exhibiting collaborative behavior
Demonstrated experience working with and following procedures
Experience with procedure review
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Requires a BS in engineering or related science, 2 years of job-related experience and 1 year of Nuclear Experience

Familiar with or worked in Radioactive Buffer Areas
Familiarity with DOE Conduct of Engineering
Familiarity with DOE Conduct of Maintenance
LANL Process Engineer Certification
