Auditor

Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country, addressing diverse regional issues. The Auditor will be responsible for planning and performing internal audits, conducting program reviews, and monitoring subrecipients, ensuring compliance and effective financial oversight.

Responsibilities

Working independently and/or with other staff in completing assignments
Planning and performing internal audits, program reviews, and special projects
Subrecipient monitoring including site visits, desk reviews of financial reporting packages, and pre-award reviews
Preparing working papers and report drafts for supervisory reviews
Working with auditees and contractors to implement audit recommendations
Completing special projects as assigned by the Director

Required

Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
Experience in Governmental Accounting and/or Auditing
Computer skills and software experience in Office 365, Teams, Word, and Excel
Ability to plan and execute audit procedures including formal reporting
Knowledge of Federal Uniform Grant Guidance and Auditing Standards
Bachelor's degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties

Preferred

Obtained or Pursuing Professional Certification (CPA, CIA, or CISA)
Experience in internal auditing or public accounting
Ability to do data analysis, and statistical sampling using software
