AIRCRAFT PROPELLER MECHANIC (TITLE 32)

Responsibilities

Test and troubleshoot aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment
Diagnose any malfunctions of rotor/propeller systems and make necessary repairs
Repair and refinish blades/propellers using a variety of metal working tools and precision measuring instruments
Perform troubleshooting of the powertrain systems using special tools and test equipment
Diagnose any system malfunctions and make necessary repairs
Subject rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to a variety of nondestructive testing to identify imperfections not otherwise detected
Operate magnetic, dye, or electronic equipment to identify or detect stress, cracks, or potential failures
Refer findings to inspector for determination of serviceability
Align and balance assembled propellers/rotor blades by making appropriate linkage adjustments and by making both chordwise and spanwise weight adjustments to bring blades into true balance
Make final adjustments to balance, track, eliminate vibrations and ensure proper revolutions per minute (RPM) by checking blade track utilizing special tracking equipment and making weight, trim tab, and control linkage adjustments
Perform operational checks of installed aircraft blades and associated sub-systems both inflight and during aircraft maintenance ground runs
May participate in aerial flights which are defined by applicable Army publications as Maintenance Test Flights
Serve as a member of the flight crew for the purposes of observing, recording, and diagnosing malfunctions
Assist in determining the airworthiness of aircraft or the functioning of specific items or components when expertise or services are required to accomplish in-flight test of equipment
Wear and utilize appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trail period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position
Military Grades: Enlisted (E4 - E7)
Minimum Requirements: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements
Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (Must have 18 months) Experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers, assemblies, and accessories
Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft propellers, components, for rotary wing aircraft
Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis
