Responsibilities

Design mechanical components for a physical robot using CAD software
Improve stiffness, durability, and stability through hands-on prototyping and physical testing
Design parts specifically for FDM 3D printing, considering material properties and assembly constraints
Rapidly prototype, print, assemble, and revise mechanical parts using FDM 3D printers
Support design-for-assembly efforts to simplify and standardize robot assembly
Create clear documentation for internal manufacturing and end-user assembly
Collaborate closely with the founding team daily

Required

You have a documented history of execution, working autonomously, and taking ownership of the end result
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field with a 3.5+ GPA
Within commuting distance of El Segundo (no relocation stipend or housing is offered for this role)
3+ months of relevant prior work experience in the form of an internship or full-time roles
Experience with CAD software (ex. Solidworks, Fusion 360)
Experience with FDM 3D printing and designing parts for printability and strength
Familiarity with material types (ex. PETG, ABS, PLA) and properties
Strong sense of product design
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on prototyping environment
Good instincts around structural stiffness, tolerances, and mechanical fit without relying on simulations
Experience creating technical documentation
100% on-site in El Segundo, CA — no remote option available
Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed to hit milestones
We are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time
Some positions may require travel to customer sites and/or conferences
Some positions may require a valid U.S. drivers license in good standing

Preferred

Prior experience with robotics teams, hardware startups, or hands-on engineering projects
Experience with Autodesk Fusion 360 or Bambu printers
Experience reinforcing plastic structures using metal components (e.g., brackets, fasteners, tubes, or extrusions)
Experience with mass-produced consumer products
Experience with packaging design
Prior experience reducing BOM size or cost
