IT Systems Engineer V

The University of Louisville is seeking an IT Systems Engineer V responsible for managing and administering the central research computing infrastructure. Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for design, operation and administration of highly complex university research supercomputing and storage systems, and development of technical documentation
Manage a suite of specialized research software, including Installation and administration of research software licenses and maintenance of OS and system support software
Assist with specification, ordering and installation of new hardware, storage and associated networking
Perform problem analysis and resolution, monitor and tune performance, configure job schedulers (SLURM) to optimize operation and performance of supercomputing resources
Advise and assist faculty, staff and graduate students on effective uses of academic and supercomputing technology for large and complex applications, and assist with development, debugging, and optimization of specialized codes for research
Work with faculty to develop research grant proposals to enhance research computing resources and fund extensions to existing centrally managed systems
Investigate and lead implementation of new academic and research technologies with potential applications at the university. Interface with technical and programming staff across the university for overall strategies and planning
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and eight (8) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in Linux system administration
Experience with supercomputing clusters
Experience with parallel file systems
Experience with university research applications
Technical leadership for design, operation and administration of highly complex university research supercomputing and storage systems
Development of technical documentation
Management of specialized research software, including installation and administration of research software licenses
Maintenance of OS and system support software
Problem analysis and resolution
Monitoring and tuning performance
Configuration of job schedulers (SLURM) to optimize operation and performance of supercomputing resources
Advising and assisting faculty, staff and graduate students on effective uses of academic and supercomputing technology
Assisting with development, debugging, and optimization of specialized codes for research
Working with faculty to develop research grant proposals
Investigating and leading implementation of new academic and research technologies
Completing special projects and other duties as assigned

Preferred

Experience with a physical layer network
Experience with Centos/RedHat Enterprise Linux
Experience with DNS/DHCP
Experience with LDAP
Experience with Linux Virtual Machine and Container Management
Good knowledge of networking and the ability to interface with enterprise networking team
Experience administering servers, networks, and backup systems
Desire to obtain new skills and work with a minimum of supervision in a collegiate work environment
Advanced degree preferred
Experience with scientific computing
Experience with the installation, configuration and administration of Docker and Singularity
Experience with the installation, configuration and administration of cluster and job/resource management software (e.g., Slurm, XCat)
Linux server installation, configuration and administration (OpenHPC, Redhat Enterprise 7/8, CentOS 7/8/Stream, Ubuntu)
Experience with SELinux
Parallel file system (Lustre) experience
Scripting in BASH, using Perl, Python
