Supervisory Child Development Center Asst Director

Responsibilities

Provides technical and administrative supervision to GS and NAF employees. Assigns, reviews, accepts, changes, or rejects the work of subordinate personnel
Assists the director with the administration of the program in such areas as budgeting, control of assets, purchase of materials and equipment, establishing and enforcing program policies, and food program implementation at each facility
Manages the day-to-day operations of the Child Development Center
Serves as facility custodian, for designated area, coordinates with civil engineer to maintain facility and grounds in optimum condition
Discusses child care problems with parents when they develop; answers parent's questions and resolves problems
Performs a wide variety of administrative duties related to Family Child Care, Expanded Child Care, Missile Care, Home Community Care, Deployment Care, Subsidy, Extended Duty Care, 24/7 Child Care, Air Force Aid Society Child Care for PCS/Volunteers, Respite Care, Resource and Referral support etc. Consults with parents to validate and confirm child care request

Required

U.S. Citizenship is required
Males must be registered for Selective Service
Must complete physical examination and required immunizations for childcare programs in accordance with guidance from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
Must complete additional training requirements (AF courses, medication dispensing, observation of symptoms of illness, security, safety, developmentally appropriate practice, lifting, including CPR and First Aid) within specified timelines
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in early childhood education, child development, or related field is required
Comprehensive knowledge of early childhood philosophies, concepts, and developmentally appropriate activities for children ages six weeks through 5 years
Knowledge of Air Force/DoD regulations governing child development, sanitation, safety and personnel practices
Employee must maintain current certifications
Position may require an appropriate security clearance
Position may be subject to random drug testing
Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
Shift work and emergency overtime may be required

Preferred

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related discipline
Specialized coursework in areas like child development, curriculum development, and business administration
Experience in a military Child Development Center (CDC) is highly desirable
The ability to mentor and coach a team to uphold high standards of care
Program management experience in developing and implementing age-appropriate curricula and programs
Regulatory Compliance knowledge from the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DoN), and other relevant authorities
Financial Acumen to assist with budget development, manage funds, and handle the collection of fees
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with parents, staff, and the broader base community
Experience with establishing and working with a Parent Involvement Board (PIB)
Emergency Preparedness skills to identify and respond to emergency situations, including child illnesses and evacuations
Leadership and Compassion to lead with empathy and understanding
Adaptability and Resilience to thrive in a dynamic and sometimes high-stakes environment
Commitment to Quality in providing the highest quality of care and continuous program improvement
