Inside Higher Ed is seeking an HVAC & Energy Systems Technical Manager to oversee facilities maintenance operations. The role involves analyzing equipment performance, implementing energy efficiency improvements, and managing HVAC and climate control systems across multi-campus locations.

Responsibilities

Analyzing equipment performance

Identifying and implementing operational and energy efficiency improvements

Troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical circuits

Coordinating with the Building Maintenance Manager in providing direct supervision and daily oversight of HVAC, mechanical, and climate control contractors

Maintaining close collaboration with faculty, staff, and trades specialists

Managing contractor maintenance and repair activities related to HVAC mechanical, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and BAS

Providing expertise in troubleshooting direct digital HVAC/EMS climate controls

Working closely with the Director of Facilities Maintenance Operations and the campus engineering department

Supporting projects requiring modification of standard methods to address a wide range of HVAC, mechanical, and EMS climate control needs in the planning, design, renovation, and maintenance of facilities across multi-campus locations

Providing and managing technical data related to agency utilities, HVAC maintenance and repairs, and EMS climate controls

Required

High school diploma

Professional experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment

Valid SC Driver's License

24-hour emergency response availability, including on-call support on weekends on a rotating basis with other staff

Participation before, during, and after severe weather or emergencies, which may include working after-hours and on weekends

Exceptional customer service when interacting with internal and external customers

Effective communication in both verbal and written forms

Preferred

Experience in managing HVAC and climate control systems

Management experience overseeing contractors responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs of HVAC and climate control systems

Experience managing operational functions, including troubleshooting, analysis, and maintenance of HVAC mechanical systems, building automation systems (BAS), and energy management systems (EMS)

Extensive knowledge of building automation systems and direct digital controls

Strong expertise in maintaining and repairing HVAC and climate control systems

Proficient in PC-based energy and maintenance management software

Capable of utilizing the MS Office Suite to assist in the development and interpretation of technical plans, specifications, and reports

Specialty certifications in HVAC controls are highly desired
