Responsibilities
Engages the interactive process (to include AD, student’s self-reporting, review of any relative history, and review of any supporting documentation, and others when needed) to facilitate the academic progress, inclusion, and UNCG community engagement of students with disabilities
Crafts individualized accommodation letters
Provides information and recommendations for service referrals and diagnostic assessment related to financial and technology assistance through local and state agencies, and coordinates those services as needed
Maintains current knowledge of accessible technology for disabled students
Collaborates with relevant offices to help students address academic requirements and design/implement appropriate support groups for students
Works cooperatively with other campus partners to provide relevant and reasonable access/barrier removal
As needed, coordinates consistent distribution of the OARS Digest, including content, announcements, and distribution lists. This task is subject to expansion and adjustment as business needs dictate
Represents OARS in community, campus activities and presentations
Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and the University community
Serves on various committees to ensure representation and inclusion of students with disabilities
Participates in professional organizations and research in the field
Other duties as needed/assigned by the OARS’ Director, including serving in their absence
Supervise (including coaching, evaluating, and crafting work plans) for 1-3 undergraduate and/or graduate students
Qualification
Required
Graduate degree in a related field; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions
Will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and relevant experience in substitution
Extensive knowledge of reasonable, post-secondary accommodations and accessible technology
Ability to assess psychological tests and other disability related documentation and individualized educational plans
Full understanding of federal regulations including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act of 2008
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships
Strong work ethic
Ability to effectively balance multiple and competing issues
Preferred
3+ years in higher ed disability services
Working knowledge of the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehab Act
Familiarity with accessible technology for disabled students
Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative
