Hardware Engineering Lead
SEC Group is seeking a strategic and technically strong Lead Hardware Engineering Leader to oversee the development of ruggedized electronics, displays, and computing systems for mission critical defense and aerospace programs. This role owns the full hardware development lifecycle from concept and design through production while ensuring all solutions meet rigorous performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, analysis, and validation of complex digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power electronics for ruggedized computing and display platforms
Provide technical leadership and hands-on contributions across circuit architecture, PCB layout, signal integrity, thermal analysis, component selection, and qualification testing
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and electrical standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DO-160, and program-specific customer requirements
Partner closely with Mechanical, Software, Systems, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver integrated, optimized system-level solutions
Establish, reinforce, and continuously improve engineering best practices, including structured design reviews, documentation standards, configuration control, and quality processes
Mentor, coach, and develop engineering staff; support succession planning and skills development across the department
Act as the senior hardware technical authority for proposals, product roadmaps, technology insertions, and key customer engagements
Manage project plans, resource assignments, risk mitigation, and department budgets to meet organizational and program objectives
Support production transition activities, including root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and supplier engagement to resolve technical issues
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated expertise in high-speed digital circuit design, power supply architecture, and embedded hardware development
In-depth knowledge of ruggedization techniques, thermal management strategies, and EMI/EMC mitigation practices
Proficient in industry-standard design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or equivalent ECAD platforms
Strong familiarity with relevant environmental and electrical compliance standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160
Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional engineering teams and managing complex projects within multidisciplinary development environments, utilizing New Product Introduction (NPI) phase gate processes
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required
Minimum of 10 years of experience in hardware design and development, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity
U.S. citizenship or lawful immigration status required, and eligibility to obtain a security clearance may be required
