Senior Project Engineer
Smurfit Westrock is a global packaging company seeking a Senior Project Engineer to manage and complete various engineering projects. The role involves overseeing capital projects, providing engineering expertise, and leading project teams to ensure successful implementation and operational launch.
Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end execution of capital and expense repair projects, from initial concept through equipment installation and operational launch
Key responsibilities include crafting comprehensive project plans that integrate safety protocols, environmental considerations, scope definition, budget control, on-site implementation, and post-installation performance evaluation
Provide engineering expertise to Operations and Maintenance departments to help resolve various operating problems
The ability to lead project teams, provide guidance, assign tasks, and effectively communicate with management, clients, and contractors
Manage the direction of consultants, contractors, and maintenance work associated with assigned capital and repair projects
Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve Smurfit Westrock’s goals and objectives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Electrical, Civil, or Industrial, though degrees in construction management or a related technical field may also be considered
Certification as a Project Management Professional
5+ years related experience with emphasis on engineering of capital projects or a minimum of 2 years professional experience that has a strong technical aptitude and ability to develop and lead cross-functional teams
Strong oral and written communication, leadership, negotiation, and team motivation skills
Interpersonal skills such as building close working relationships and conflict resolution
Prior hands-on field experience, like that of a team leader
A deep understanding of engineering principles, including areas like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, operations research, and process optimization
Adaptability to rapidly changing working environments and operational situations
Physical ability to operate in paper mill environment, including light to moderate lifting, walking, and climbing, oral communication, correctable vision, and ability to work in a hot, humid, and dusty environment
Competency in project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and project scheduling tools
