Senior Electrical Designer
EPIC Systems is a company specializing in engineering solutions, and they are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to lead electrical design projects. The role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure project requirements are met while providing mentorship and contributing to design standards.
Responsibilities
Project Execution and Coordination – Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure electrical designs meet project requirements while adhering to scope, schedule, and budget
Electrical Design & EPLAN Modeling – Develop accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and device routing using EPLAN Electric P8 (and Pro Panel where applicable), producing intelligent, data-rich design packages optimized for fabrication and installation
Power & Controls Integration – Design low-voltage power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, and control system layouts that integrate with mechanical and process systems
Design Review and Quality Control – Conduct biweekly design reviews, perform drawing checks, and participate in clash detection/model integration efforts to identify and resolve issues before fabrication
Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing – Provide structured mentorship to junior designers and/or contract resources to ensure knowledge transfer, design continuity, and continuous improvement
Continuous Improvement – Contribute to the development and refinement of electrical design standards, EPLAN symbol libraries, macros, templates, and best practices to improve long-term productivity and design quality
Qualification
Required
Embrace EPIC's Behaviors for Success
Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or CAD technology is required; a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is a plus
10+ years of relevant electrical design experience in industrial, manufacturing, or process environments
Strong proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8, with 2–3+ full years of active, hands-on use preferred. (Pro Panel experience is a plus.)
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is beneficial but not a substitute for EPLAN expertise
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other business tools
Strong understanding of low-voltage industrial power distribution (208V–600V)
Strong understanding of equipment layout and electrical room design
Strong understanding of MCCs, VFDs, and motor schematics
Strong understanding of PLC hardware design, I/O wiring, and instrumentation integration
Strong understanding of industrial control panel design per UL 508A
Strong understanding of cable tray and conduit routing design
Ability to develop and interpret one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and load schedules
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70/79, IEEE, UL)
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in drawings, models, and specifications
Effective time management for handling multiple projects simultaneously
Strong communication skills with project managers, engineers, and craftspeople
Preferred
Experience managing EPLAN component libraries, macros, templates, and CAD standards
Familiarity with both industrial (non-clean) and sanitary (clean/hygienic) manufacturing environments
Understanding of structural and mechanical interfaces, including cable tray loading and conduit support details
Ability to coordinate electrical components with mechanical, piping, and structural designers in shared 3D model environments
