Responsibilities
Conduct research in lab – The incumbent will carry out research on the molecular basis of plant-nematode interactions. He/she will conduct research to identify nematodes genes important for parasitism and overcoming host plant resistance, as well as characterize the host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance. The incumbent will handle and analyze genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets, clone candidate plant and nematode genes, and use a variety of molecular and genetic approaches to characterize the function of these genes in nematode parasitism in both crop and model plant systems
Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures – The incumbent will care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for executing research experiments. This will involve planting, watering, and harvesting of seed and/or propagating the necessary nematode cultures
Collect and analyze data – He/she will collect data from experiments and analyze it directly and in collaboration with the PI
Writing and reporting of research – The incumbent is expected to summarize and regularly discuss research results in both written and oral format with the PI. He/she will prepare research updates will prepare periodic research reports in collaboration with the PI and required for granting agencies
Present results to the scientific community and for publication – He/she will be expected to present research results at professional scientific meetings at local venues, national and international meetings
Supervision of student workers – The incumbent will supervise student workers and provide mentorship along with the PI to undergraduate researchers that assist with research in the laboratory
