Responsibilities

Manage and conduct independent research projects
Assist in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae; coordinate and prepare shipments of filarial materials to researchers; Laboratory maintenance – cleaning and sterilize glassware and equipment, stock and order supplies; restraint, handling, and bleeding of laboratory rodents, dogs and cats
Periodic duties: External training coordinator; Maintain animal inventory records and order animals as needed; Cross-train on other laboratory procedures, and assist in procedures as needed; Maintain equipment and supply inventories and repair records; Perform related duties as required and assist PI, Assoc. and Asst. Research Scientists as needed

Required

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate
Manual dexterity
Previous laboratory animal, parasitology/entomology experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Graph Pad Prism
Experience using a microscope/dissecting scope
Previous management of filarial life cycles
Knowledge of larval migration inhibition assay
Extensive knowledge of experimental design of both in vivo and in vitro experiments with filarial parasites
