Professional Billing Specialist

Responsibilities
Perform all functions of billing department that includes Billing, Follow-up, cash posting and Denials management for a multispecialty-billing department
Manage all aspects of the job
Complete monthly billing reports for the department and individual physicians as assigned
Write denial arguments utilizing research skills along with the knowledge of billing
Handle audit-related issues
Make decisions regarding billing accuracy and the need to re-bill, follow-up, and/or identify actions for prevention on an ongoing basis
Qualification
Required
High school graduate or equivalent required
At least 5 years' experience in physician billing
Ability to work independently
Ability to make management level decisions
Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of hospital personnel
Organization and prioritization skills
Effective written and verbal communications skills
Analytical skills
Proficient computer skills
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities
Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone
Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required
Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
Must have working knowledge of the AHA Inpatient and Outpatient Coding
Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word
Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
Preferred
Associate or other Degree desired
American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred
Coding experience and working knowledge of the AHA Coding Clinic preferred
