Mechanical Engineering Lead, Energy Storage

Redwood Materials is localizing a global battery supply chain focused on recovery, reuse, and recycling to drive the energy transition. The Mechanical Engineering Lead will be responsible for designing mechanical components related to batteries and will play a key role in building and leading a mechanical engineering team as the product develops.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute the mechanical design and development of a large-scale renewable energy solution from concept to deployment, including thermal management, authoring requirements, structural design, packaging/integration of power electronics, and integration with grid infrastructure
Act as the primary mechanical engineering expert, driving innovation and solving technical challenges at a large scale
Perform mechanical analysis (CFD, FEA, thermal, etc.) to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions
Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into the overall system architecture
Select materials and components, working closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions
Manage engineering projects in a hands-on capacity to deliver on project goals and timelines
As the project scales, take a leadership role in recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performance mechanical engineering team
Contribute to a collaborative, fast-paced startup culture, where every team member plays a crucial role in achieving company milestones

Required

BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in batteries, renewable energy systems, or similar large-scale projects
Proven track record as a senior mechanical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing experience in building products at scale
Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and analysis tools (CFD, FEA, etc.)
Experience in the development of tools, infrastructure and design practices for a growing team
Self-motivated, with the ability to manage your work in a startup environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization and present to internal and external executives
