The Assistant Director of Development plays a key role in securing private support from individuals, foundations, and organizations to advance the university’s mission.

Responsibilities

Builds and manages a portfolio of donors and prospects that includes alumni, major gift donors, and/or corporations and foundations
Guides constituents through the fundraising cycle to generate partnerships that include major gifts, deferred giving, corporate sponsorships, and grants
Aligns external support with institutional priorities through research, proposal writing, and strategic donor engagement
Maintains a portfolio of donors and constituents and cultivates relationships with each of them, and solicits them
Develops, implements, and evaluates fund development portfolio and portfolio strategies that will meaningfully engage donors
Leads and organizes donor visits and meetings for the purpose of qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting gifts and grants to the University; and travels to meet with prospective funders as needed
Writes proposals and grants in support of institutional priorities and aligned with the University’s strategic plans
Conducts significant discovery work through targeted research and review of published funder guidelines and donor priorities to build a portfolio that includes constituents capable of making major investments in the University
Identifies prospects on an ongoing basis; and works with guidance and direction to design and implement strategies to move donors through the fundraising cycle toward solicitation by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and stewarding them
Drafts, reviews, and edits complex proposals, letters, gift agreements, and reports; compiles supporting documentation to comply with submission requirements and deadlines; and prepares briefing materials for the leadership team as necessary
Maintains an accurate gifts/grants calendar, including the submission and tracking of proposals, subsequent awards, and reports
Consults subject-matter experts among faculty and program administration to understand and develop information documents to share with constituencies about the university and its need for private support
Assists faculty and staff in preparing and submitting applications for research or program funding
Travels nationwide as needed for effective relationship management and to keep Gallaudet top of mind
Hosts campus visits for donors and related constituents and either participates in and/or arranges visits to donor sites for campus leadership
Participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning
Participates in University-wide development activities as needed
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis
Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents

Required

Bachelor's degree
A minimum of three years of professional experience with business operations, project management, community engagement, sales and fundraising, community engagement, or a related field
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language
