Housing Inspector (Compliance/Maintenance Specialist II, Time-Limited) - R20207
Sarasota County Government is seeking a Housing Inspector to join their Resilient SRQ team, focusing on the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery program. The role involves inspecting single-family construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, while also supporting project delivery and process improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
Inspect single-family construction projects to ensure work meets plans, specifications, and schedules
Notify contractors of any discrepancies or noncompliance found during inspections
Review construction estimates, including materials and labor costs, for accuracy and completeness
Conduct periodic on-site visits to monitor progress and document each stage of construction
Prepare clear reports on findings, progress, materials used, and costs for the Project Manager/Supervisor review
Work with contractors to resolve construction issues and adjust schedules as needed
Identify potential delays or roadblocks and help develop timely solutions
Partner with Case Managers to evaluate issues and recommend improvements
Understand and apply CDBG-DR grant regulations, policies, and procedures
Collaborate with department staff, contractors, community partners, and program applicants
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or its equivalent and 3+ years of experience in construction/maintenance, contract applicable construction trades, or in a field providing technical/supervisory services to construction/maintenance contractors
OR: College or university-level training in an appropriate field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required construction/maintenance experience
Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire
Preferred
Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Certification OR the ability to obtain the certification within 45 days of employment
Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Solid organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to multitask and work well under pressure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort using online tools and data systems
Reliable transportation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while building partnerships and connecting applicants to community resources
