Wildlife Biological Aide II- Herpetology

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is dedicated to conserving and managing Delaware’s fish and wildlife. They are seeking seasonal research assistants to assist the State Herpetologist with various amphibian and reptile projects, which include conducting surveys and monitoring species.

Responsibilities

Conducts fieldwork to collect samples and survey data independently, but under the guidance of a technical superior
Processes biological samples
Utilizes and maintains various scientific instruments, boats and all-terrain vehicles
Provides field (e.g., controlled sampling) and/or laboratory support to professional staff involved in research or program development for managing the quality of natural resources
Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, professionalism and good communication skills, and interact as a team member with other staff and volunteers
Maintains a positive attitude
Other duties as required

Qualification

Fieldwork experienceGeographic Information System (GIS)Wildlife biology/managementNarrative report writingCommunication skills

Required

Must be at least 18 years of age
Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data
Knowledge of using a Geographic Information System (GIS)
Knowledge of narrative report writing
Knowledge of Wildlife biology/management or closely related field
Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)
