Responsibilities

Develops and provides forestry management training to inmates
Reviews and revises program curriculum, materials, and learning assignments
Reviews the demand and training requirements of cooperating agencies to ensure that the program meets the needs of students and customers
Develops and maintains a network of cooperating agencies that will utilize this program for response to wildfire or other disaster relief opportunities
Manages offenders during deployment on wildfire or forestry projects, which may include such projects as tree planting, mitigation, trail construction, and other disaster relief/prevention
Implements facility policy and procedures to ensure safety and security through tool, materials and supply control
Responsible for offender movement and accountability
Manages the program operating budget to ensure adequate supplies, equipment and material are available throughout the fiscal year
Maintains program equipment and material inventories; recommends Capital equipment purchases
Provides supervision, training, scheduling and evaluations for offender workers
Records attendance and provides information to formulate payroll
Develops and maintains database of offender training records to ensure that offenders are properly trained for the emergency to which they are responding
Ensures the safety and security of the public, facility staff and offenders by evaluating work conditions; instructing staff and offenders in proper safety methods
Provides custody, surveillance, supervisory, transport, shakedown and count duties; ensures proper key, tool, equipment and chemical control; ensures compliance of all policy/procedural guidelines; enforces safety/security procedures by conducting inspections, work site searches and monitoring the work environment

Required

Four years (4) of work experience in wildland fire fighting
Must be Single Resource level (Crew Boss) with the proper credentials to take out a Type 2 Hand Crew
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Have NO felony convictions
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States
Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics
Must be 21 years of age
Possess a valid driver's license
Must hold an active and valid Colorado driver license appropriate for the vehicle type and position responsibilities
Complete a DOT-compliant job application as required by 49 CFR 391.21
Successful completion of a background investigation is required

Preferred

Experience working in the Correctional environment in Wild Land Fire Fighting
Experience in supervising and/or training others in wild land firefighting, forest management, trail development, general firefighting or closely related experience
Possess Crew Boss Certification by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG)
