Payroll Coordinator (Internal Only)
Grosse Pointe Public School System is seeking a Payroll Coordinator within Business and Support Services at Central Office. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for district employees, and maintaining compliance with regulations and policies.

Responsibilities
Prepare, balance and maintain all payroll records including payroll taxes, retirement contributions, tax deferred purchase payments, deductions, annuities, etc. for multiple collective bargaining units, hourly employees, administrators and other employees on a biweekly basis
Ensure proper payment of wages including reviewing/auditing and entering timesheets, contract changes, supplemental payments and other miscellaneous adjustments to payroll
Load and balance all employee payroll contracts in the payroll system
Manage the Bi-Weekly EPED (Extra Pay for Extra Duty) assignments and maintain spreadsheet to track payments
Maintain accurate and complete employee earnings and deduction records
Process and manage all aspects of direct deposit, including payroll deductions, ACH file processing, and submissions to financial institutions
Interpret union contracts related to employee pay to ensure accurate payments
Handle inquiries from employees, unions, and supervisors in a professional and confidential manner
Responsible for all aspects of retirement reporting with the Office of Retirement Services (ORS), including biweekly reports, new hire elections, reform compliance, and retiree final reports
Calculate, prepare and remit tax withholdings, garnishments, and other payroll deductions
Prepare and submit local, state and federal tax returns quarterly/annually
Balance, prepare and distribute employee W2s
Maintain employee documents, files and records per Michigan retention schedules in a confidential manner
Serves as the Payroll Department's liaison with government agencies, the Human Resources Department, and other district offices ensuring a positive and productive working relationship with these groups
Performs periodic audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy
Completes wage/employment verifications
Creates A/P invoices for payment of payroll deductions payable to third parties (garnishments, tax-deferred payments, support payments)
Balances and uploads all district 403(b) and 457 tax-deferred plan contributions to third-party administrator (TPA)
Regular and reliable in person attendance is an essential function of the position
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
An Associate's degree or higher, or related combination of education and experience
Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Applications
Demonstrated accurate and efficient computational and data entry skills
Excellent organizational and detail-orientation skills
Outstanding customer service skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively with co-workers, district employees and governmental representatives
Demonstrated history of flexibility, respect, and cooperation in the workplace and ability to work as a productive member of a team
Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and in an independent manner
The successful candidate must meet the State standard for a clear criminal history and provide mandated fingerprint clearance
Preferred
Previous payroll experience strongly preferred or experience in book-keeping, and/or accounting
Previous experience with payroll software preferred
Previous experience with State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS) preferred
