Civil Engineering Intern - Summer 2026
WSP is a leading engineering and professional services firm in the U.S., and they are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2026. This internship offers hands-on experience in civil engineering tasks, working alongside experienced engineers to develop technical skills and contribute to utility substation design projects.

Responsibilities
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of Civil Engineering
Work with experienced engineers on utility substation design projects
Assist senior engineers in developing detailed structural design calculations and analyses of concrete elements, concrete foundations and steel structures in accordance with industry codes and standards (ASCE7, ASCE113, ACI 318, AISC 360, NESC, IEEE, etc.)
Assist in creating engineering drawing markups for drafting that align with design calculation results
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in structural design, consulting engineering, and the power and utilities industry, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Preferred
Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Master's or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
