Responsibilities

Shape the Landscape: Design and execute strategies that educate federal and state policymakers about Tapestry. Proactively engage with policymakers, key Congressional and administrative offices, and relevant industry bodies to advance Tapestry’s interests
Be the Radar: Monitor analyzes policy, legislative, and regulatory developments impacting Tapestry, specifically within the evolving energy and artificial intelligence landscapes. Provide counsel on policy implications associated with new products, services, and corporate strategy
External Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and steward high-level relationships with a diverse network of external stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions
Proactively engage with a wide variety of outside stakeholders to educate them about Tapestry’s platform. You will build coalitions with advocacy groups, academics, and industry partners to shape the policy environment and ensure Tapestry is viewed as a thought leader in the energy sector
Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, trade associations, non-profit and advocacy groups, academics, and other key stakeholders to promote and build support for Tapestry’s policy positions
Content Development and Communications: Author high-quality, persuasive policy briefs, white papers, legislative language, and testimony. Ensure clear, concise, and accessible communication of Tapestry's policy positions to varied, highly sophisticated audiences
Strategy & Scrappiness: This individual will operate as a one-person public policy team, responsible for both high-level strategy and tactical execution. You need to enjoy rolling up your own sleeves to do the work, and be comfortable pitching a high-level strategy in the morning and deep-diving into the details of legislative text in the afternoon
Navigate the Ecosystem: You will be the liaison between Tapestry and Google’s broader Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team, ensuring our specific goals move fast while staying aligned with the wider corporate strategy

Required

10-15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public policy, government relations, or a closely related field
Demonstrated and current subject matter expertise in U.S. energy and utilities public policy. The candidate must possess the intellectual depth and industry fluency to command immediate credibility among policymakers and industry professionals
A minimum of 3 years of this experience must be direct private sector experience in public policy or government relations advocacy. Candidates whose background is exclusively policy formulation within governmental or academic entities will not meet the requirements for this role
Required to be resident and maintain an active professional presence in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. This commitment is essential for continuous, high-impact engagement with the policy ecosystem
Proven track record of high-impact performance operating in a senior individual contributor capacity. Must demonstrate the capability and willingness to independently own and execute all tactical and strategic elements of the policy portfolio without dedicated staff management
Possess the professional gravitas and acumen necessary to represent the organization effectively before high-level government officials and members of Congress. Demonstrated history of navigating complex political environments, ideally exhibiting a capacity for bipartisan or cross-spectrum engagement
Superior written and verbal communication skills. Acute political and strategic judgment is required to assess risk and opportunity in a dynamic, high-stakes environment
Prior experience managing outside policy advisors and lobbyists
Some domestic and international travel is required

Preferred

Advanced degree (e.g., Master's in Public Policy, Juris Doctor, or a relevant discipline)
Familiarity with the structural and operational characteristics of the U.S. Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs/ISOs) or state Public Utility Commissions
Experience in high-growth, technically driven organizations, such as the technology or software sector
