Spray Technician
Major League Baseball (MLB) is seeking a Spray Technician to manage Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and fertilization programs across athletic fields and landscaped areas. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations and supporting general maintenance for events and programs.

Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive IPM program using biological, cultural, mechanical, and chemical control methods
Accurately identify pests, weeds, and diseases and determine appropriate treatment methods based on IPM principles and label requirements
Maintain detailed records of pesticide and fertilizer applications to ensure compliance with FDACS, OSHA, EPA, and MLB safety standards
Manage pesticide and fertilizer inventories, mixing, loading, calibration, and proper disposal of containers and materials
Inspect, maintain, and operate spray equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), and chemical storage facilities in safe and compliant condition
Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to pesticide and fertilizer applications
Maintain up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) and ensure secure, organized storage of all regulated materials
Conduct regular inspections of spray equipment and safety devices to ensure operational readiness
Participate in required safety trainings and promote a culture of environmental and personal safety across the department
Assist with routine field maintenance, including mowing, edging, infield prep, and debris removal
Support field tarp placement and removal during adverse weather conditions or special events
Collaborate with the Grounds team to ensure all athletic fields and landscaped areas meet MLB standards for playability, appearance, and safety
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Manager, Grounds or Manager, Grounds
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum 1 year of experience in turfgrass, golf course, landscape, or sports field pest management
Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months a Florida Pesticide & Fertilizer Applicator License Turf and Ornamentals
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Strong working knowledge of IPM principles, pest identification, and pesticide/fertilizer safety standards
Ability to calibrate, operate, and maintain spray equipment, spreaders, and hand tools
Effective time management, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred
Vocational or technical training in turf management
Experience with warm-season turf species (e.g., Bermuda grass) and athletic field management
