Responsibilities
Strong understanding and experience of developing and managing metric orientated logistics/warehousing/inventory management processes and the ability to measure, analyze, improve, and control and take ownership of the processes
A member of the senior management team helping to guide the organization strategically so that assets and relationships are leveraged to maximize return on investment. Takes the information back to the team to implement various initiatives in all locations
Intimate knowledge of the P&L of each company as well as the customer base, suppliers, and potential new business to help GMs achieve an appropriate operating budget
A strong understanding of pricing, route analysis, and VIP to assist in the details with GMs, Warehouse Managers, Delivery Managers and Sales Managers
Knowledge in root cause analysis/problem solving and the ability to implement and drive corrective actions and efficiencies
Ensures adequate back up support for all operation functions region wide
Ensures all standard operating procedures are communicated and followed in all locations in support of the GMs, Warehouse Managers, Delivery Managers and Sales Managers
Develops and assists GMs, Warehouse Managers, Delivery Managers and Sales Managers with procedures for new projects/work added to the GDH portfolio
Staffing, receiving, and loading procedures, hiring, cleanliness, breakage, inventory control, maintenance, and regulatory requirements
Oversee implementation of facilities, delivery, and employee safety and training programs in compliance with OSHA standards
Ensure that distribution facilities, delivery drivers, and other employees adhere to OSHA standards
Implement and maintain disaster plans for each location
Provide strategic direction to warehouse management to ensure a seamless look across all companies
Ensure operational cohesion between delivery, warehousing, and sales development of common incentives that have mutually beneficial goals
Analyze all warehouse expenditures monthly to identify potential cost-saving opportunities
Complete all analytical requests on a timely basis
Aid Sales Management on business planning when necessary
Evaluates staffing needs and overall organizational structure
Complies with all assignments or requests from CEO and Executive staff
Discusses all major financial related matters with the CEO and Executive Staff prior to implementation
Lead and direct the dispatching function in all companies
Ensure a seamless look in all locations regarding the use of company technology
Ensure a strong working relationship between the logistics department and the warehouse load crew to improve our efficiency
Conduct regular meetings between departments to keep communication lines open
Support director of purchasing and logistics with inbound and transfer loads within operating companies
Assist General Sales Manager, Chain Managers, Delivery Managers and Salespeople in achieving pertinent goals and objectives
Work with all levels of the sales department, on an ongoing basis, to facilitate achieving desired outcomes and in-field training
Willingly completes other duties as assigned to meet the strategic and operational and financial objectives of GDH
Uses strengths-based supervision so each person supervised comes to know his/her own strengths and weaknesses and uses strengths in day-to-day work
Ensures that each employee supervised has opportunities for personal and professional growth
Provides clear expectations for each supervised staff
Models’ adherence to GDH’s Values and holds staff accountable for knowing and practicing the values
Completes coaching regularly of supervised staff and annual a performance evaluation on due date
Provides direct supervision to the Multi-Terminal Managers, Terminal Managers, and Operations Managers and other operations staff as assigned
Actively participates in internal and external training opportunities
Exhibits enthusiasm for learning and personal growth
Understands and can describe key components of all Gulf’s lines of service
Represents GDH Values and follows GDH Values within the community at all times
Effectively uses office equipment (copiers, fax machines, scanners), a personal computer and Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Explorer
Efficiently uses operations management software, including VIP
Qualification
Required
Minimum of bachelor's degree in business or Logistics Management
Minimum of five years of experience in Logistics and Transportation Management
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with transportation management software. Prior use of VIP or similar software package
Highly organized, detail oriented
Access to reliable transportation. If driving an automobile while on company business, must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and auto insurance. Must be able to pass a background check, MVR, and drug screen
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external individuals, including other professionals in the community
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of the leadership team
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to various internal and external audiences in both person and through various electronic media
Demonstrated ability to manage time and work effectively with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously
