Financial Counselor

Responsibilities

Connect with patients in person or by telephone to review financial options, complete or renew sliding fee scale applications, and enroll patients in Medicaid and Marketplace programs
Receive and complete patient referrals from internal staff
Follow up on patient applications to ensure timely and accurate completion
Analyze and interpret information including sliding fee support materials, IRS documents, credit reports, payer regulations, and contracts
Maintain courteous, professional, and sensitive interactions with patients and families
Collaborate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff to maximize patient benefits
Actively participate in team meetings to improve patient services and financial processes
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certified Application Counselor (CAC) or willingness to complete CAC certification within one year of hire
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred

Experience with Marketplace enrollment preferred
Prior healthcare experience, including knowledge of financial clearance, insurance verification, prior authorization, denial prevention, and patient account management
Familiarity with federal, state, and county program rules, especially FQHC programs
Strong computer skills, including keyboarding, MS Office, and experience with Epic preferred
