Materials Scientist Engineer

The Materials Scientist/Engineer will work in a laboratory and production environment to perform testing of optical fibers and develop new materials and processes, with potential growth into a Lead Materials Development Engineer role over time.

Responsibilities

Work in a materials and quality laboratory next to the production floor
Perform testing of optical fibers to characterize their physical, mechanical and optical properties
Work with senior engineers to develop new UV curable materials and processes for optical fiber applications
Draft reports, power point presentations, present results in team meetings
Work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work under high pressure and manage challenging deadlines

Required

B.S. degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering
Materials testing experience in a laboratory environment
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work under high pressure and manage challenging deadlines
Proficient in basic computer functions (Office, web)
Excellent communication, time-management, and documentation skills

Preferred

Coursework or experience in Polymer Science, Materials Characterization, Polymer Rheology
Experience with materials characterization techniques with preference for tensile and fatigue testing
Must enjoy hands-on work
Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on needs of the business
