SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY DESIGN DIRECTOR
NAVFAC Engineering CMD Mid-Atlantic is responsible for planning, design, and construction within the Department of the Navy. The Supervisory General Engineer or Architect (Design Director) will manage project planning, technical guidance, and budget requirements for facility renovation and maintenance projects, leading a multi-discipline design team from concept development through completion.

Responsibilities
You will manage project planning, project schedules, technical guidance, coordination, and budget requirements for facility renovation and maintenance projects
You will direct multi-discipline design team responsible for studies or design of projects from concept development through completion
You will develop objectives and set priorities for personnel to meet strategic direction and agency goals
You will brief higher level management on work status, technical decisions, and recommendations
You will compose technical correspondence to communicate engineering and architectural designs, plans, and objectives to higher level management, technical experts, and staff
You will propose planning solutions to facilities problems to verify projects are completed within established timeframe

This position requires current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) from any state, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Applying expertise in advanced engineering or architectural theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods and practices in project planning, engineering and design; 2) Exercising initiative and leadership through ingenuity, persuasive ability, fairness, integrity, tact and sound judgment to manage teams; 3) Contracting for government services and the contractor selection process; 4) Applying knowledge of organization, budgeting, planning, and project management techniques to review, assess, and resolve design and construction issues; 5) Applying knowledge of NAVFAC facilities acquisition, project funding authority levels and sources, contract requirements, contract documents, proposal and bidding procedures; and 6) Communicating effectively through oral and written expression to conduct formal presentations and briefings to high-level civilian and military leaders
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics
Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture
Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to architecture that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems
Have a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings
You lack a degree in architecture, but have 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture that demonstrates that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture
