Chair, National Security Affairs Department

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Chair leads 22 civilian and 12 military faculty on all aspects of the Department's operations including: curriculum development; academic outreach; engagement with the wider civilian and PME academic world; and faculty recruitment, retention, and development
This includes meeting with civilian faculty in accordance with the Defense Performance Management Appraisal Program and mentoring faculty to meet college guidelines for promotion and tenure
Additionally, the Chair meets with academic representatives at least twice per term and leads comprehensive curriculum reviews in support of legal and policy requirements
The Chair oversees the preparation, review, management, and execution of the Department's annual budget, assures faculty meet annual training requirements, and supports faculty development
On-site daily, the Chair is responsible for working closely with the College's leadership, fostering and maintaining cooperative relationships with other departments and programs, and encouraging seamless integration across college departments

Must be a US Citizen

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
The incumbent may be expected to travel on occasion
This appointment is for a Term 4 years
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in withdrawal of a job offer or removal
An earned doctorate is required in a field relevant to national security such as political science, public policy analysis, international relations, political economy, history, or regional security studies
Strong publication and teaching records are essential
Applicants must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining and maintaining a Department of Defense security clearance at the SECRET level
