AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32)

Responsibilities
Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed, by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s); determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner; independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures; estimate time, equipment and material requirements; devise and maintain plans and records; provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, and leave; perform the full range of shop work; perform in-process, final inspection, and clear status symbols certifying work performed by others in shop; implement safety regulatory requirements; ensure that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions; prepare for, and participate in, various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises; perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment. Serves as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies; perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trail period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position
Military Grades: Enlisted (E5 to E7)
Minimum Requirements: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements
Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories
Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft
Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis
