Security
Responsibilities
Work closely with a diverse group of engineers, technologists and technicians on timing and firing control systems, high explosive detonator testing, facility infrastructure, high voltage and laser operations to support experiments
Provide technical support in the areas of testing, analysis, development, assembly, modifications, and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment used in experimental work
Assure safety and security compliance, maintain required safety and security training, and make safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security
Ability to read drawings and blueprints, use digital test equipment, data analysis, electromagnetic shielding, high-speed data acquisition systems and software and ultrafast timing techniques
Demonstrated experience testing interconnected systems of electronic equipment for qualification and troubleshooting purposes
Demonstrated ability to work with computer-based data-acquisition systems acquiring digital and/or digitized data during timing-critical experiments
Qualification
Required
Must have working knowledge of Windows and/or MacOS operating systems and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Experience using web-based forms is needed
Must have experience using remote voice/video conference collaboration tools such as Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc
Experience machining a variety of materials with lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and other industrial apparatus
Working knowledge of a variety of hand and machine tools such as drills, crimpers, wire strippers/cutters, torque wrenches, tap/die sets, and air spray guns
Ability to interpret technical drawings
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team

Demonstrated experience testing interconnected systems of electronic equipment for qualification and troubleshooting purposes
Must have experience timing electrical cables with devices such as time-domain reflectometers, oscilloscopes, delay generators, etc
Maintains electrical-related certifications
Demonstrated ability to work with computer-based data-acquisition systems acquiring digital and/or digitized data during timing-critical experiments
Experience with customized instrument control and acquisition with software such as LabView
Position requires a High School diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Position requires an Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Preferred
Knowledge of nuclear weapons concepts and the U.S. stockpile or other weapon designs
Thorough knowledge of DOE and LANL safety policies, practices, and procedures
Knowledge of systems engineering and requirements management principles and processes
Strong understanding of schematics and hardware configurations
Strong experience in electro-mechanical and optical hardware. This includes optical cables/connectors, welding optical fibers, cleaning/polishing optical fibers, and testing optical fiber runs for timing and loss
Experience participating in hazard analysis reviews
Experience working in an environment where high-explosives are present and be familiar with high-explosive safety programs
Experience with weapon component design, fabrication and assembly techniques, as well as advanced fabrication processes
Experience with professional-level photography equipment and strong understanding of focal length, aperture, and depth-of-field
Experience with nanosecond-accuracy timing and measurement systems and instruments
Q Clearance, which normally requires US Citizenship
Experience related to mechanical, electronic, and optical techniques used in timing and firing control systems is preferred
