Director of Public Relations and Communications
CMT Research Foundation is seeking a Director of Public Relations and Communications to drive organizational messaging and public reputation. The role involves developing a communications strategy, overseeing public relations efforts, and managing scientific communications to enhance the organization's visibility and influence.

Responsibilities
Establish and steward a multi-year organizational communications framework aligned with CMTRF’s strategic plan, scientific agenda, and revenue initiatives
Architect CMTRF’s brand position as the preeminent global catalyst for CMT therapeutic innovation
Serve as communications advisor to senior leadership on strategic messaging, sensitive communications, public trust issues, and organizational announcements
Lead scenario planning and response frameworks for crisis, risk, and issue management
Direct public relations strategy, including national media, scientific media, industry media, and financial-sector press
Cultivate relationships with journalists, science writers, biotech reporters, and investor-community communications outlets
Oversee earned media, executive visibility, speaking placements, op-eds, and news campaigns
Guide the development of thought-leadership narratives that elevate CMTRF’s role in drug development
Translate complex research findings, program data, and scientific narratives into compelling materials for donors and general audiences
Oversee major institutional publications such as impact reports, scientific briefs, investment cases for research partnerships, and campaign narratives
Ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with scientific leadership in all externally published research-linked content
Set standards and governance for organization-wide messaging frameworks, tone, and narrative architecture using a set of brand guidelines
Shape communication strategies for industry alliances, biotech collaborations, venture-philanthropy partnerships, and co-funded research announcements
Support scientific and development leadership with communications that articulate CMTRF's strategic value to external stakeholders
Build communication systems that strengthen CMTRF’s brand with researchers, biotech partners, donors, and the patient community
Establish KPIs for communications and PR performance, develop dashboards integrating media analytics, segmentation, and engagement metrics
Apply data-driven insights to refine messaging, target emerging audiences, and anticipate shifts in media and stakeholder behavior
Create evaluation models that tie communications outcomes to organizational influence, research visibility, and fundraising performance
Work within the salesforce environment to produce and launch communications to key constituents
Analyze results in line with pre-established KPIs and organizational goals
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
10+ years in senior communications, public affairs, scientific communications, or media strategy
Demonstrated experience in high-stakes communications, reputation management, and multi-channel campaigns
Exceptional writing, strategic planning, and external stakeholder engagement abilities
Experience with CRM systems, analytics platforms, and communications measurement tools
