Solar Technician (Residential)

Samuel Knight Energy & Infrastructure is seeking a Residential Solar Technician responsible for the installation, wiring, commissioning, and troubleshooting of residential photovoltaic (PV) systems. The role requires a licensed journeyman electrician with hands-on solar experience to ensure code compliance and support high-quality installations in occupied residential environments.

Responsibilities

Install, wire, and commission residential solar PV systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, disconnects, and balance-of-system components
Perform AC and DC electrical work in accordance with NEC, local AHJ requirements, and utility interconnection standards
Interpret and execute electrical plans, single-line diagrams, and permit drawings
Lead and support installation crews, providing technical guidance and ensuring workmanship standards are met
Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning to verify performance and safety
Coordinate with inspectors, utilities, and internal project teams to support inspections and system turn-on
Identify and resolve on-site issues related to electrical design, roof conditions, or existing electrical infrastructure
Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and fall protection requirements
Maintain accurate documentation, including as-built changes and commissioning reports
Support service calls and warranty work as needed

Required

2+ years of hands-on residential solar PV installation experience
Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), particularly Articles 690 and 705
Experience with common residential inverter platforms (string, microinverter, or hybrid systems)
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and construction drawings
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Ability to work on rooftops and lift equipment up to 50 lbs

Preferred

NABCEP certification (PV Installation Professional or Associate)
Experience leading crews or acting as electrical lead on residential projects
Familiarity with energy storage systems (battery backup, hybrid inverters)
Prior experience working with AHJs and utility inspections
