Responsibilities

Conducts specialized blood tests to determine antibody level of transplant recipients
Performs histocompatibility testing for transplantation and disease associations
Assures accuracy of results and reports to transplant surgeon and other appropriate personnel
Evaluates immunocompetency of transplant patient prior to and following procedure when necessary
Coordinates donor/recipient information and status with transplant team
Participates in on-call rotation schedule of 24 hours a day, 365 days a year coverage for deceased donor testing
Draws blood from normal control subjects as necessary
Maintains complete records of transplant patients
Prepares and enters test data and results into computer
Monitors and evaluates quality control procedures
Responsible for laboratory safety proficiency
Assists in evaluating laboratory services and procedures and makes recommendations
Assists in evaluation of new testing procedures and techniques
Assists in development and update of laboratory manual
Adheres to internal controls established for department

Required

Bachelor's degree in a Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science
One (1) year laboratory or phlebotomy experience
Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI)
MLS Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or MT Certification by American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Obtain ACHI, MLS, or AMT certification within 12 months of hire

Preferred

One (1) year experience in a clinical histocompatibility laboratory
