Risk & Compliance Manager
JJ&S Environmental is one of the fastest-growing environmental, demolition, and logistics companies in California. They are seeking a detail-oriented Risk Compliance Manager to oversee insurance programs, contracts, licensing, and compliance to ensure the company adheres to regulatory standards as it expands into new verticals.
Responsibilities
Lead renewals for GL, Workers Comp, Auto/Fleet, Pollution, Umbrella, etc
Manage relationships with brokers
Oversee COIs and client/subcontractor compliance
Ensure insurance requirements align with our contracts and operations, improve pricing
Review customer and subcontractor agreements
Identify liability, indemnity, and insurance risks
Maintain contract templates and ensure compliance
Support BD and Ops teams with contract-related questions
Track and renew all corporate and subsidiary licenses:
Contractor licenses
Environmental certifications
Hauling permits
State, Federal Licensing, certs
Monitor regulatory changes and communicate requirements
Coordinate claims across Workers Comp, Auto, GL, and Property
Manage statements, documentation, evidence collection
Work with adjusters and brokers to ensure timely resolution
Track claim trends and costs
Handle filings, reports, and documentation
Ensure compliance with CARB emissions standards
Support environmental reporting requirements
Collaborate with lobbyists/consultants when necessary
Maintain OSHA logs with HR oversight
Prepare documentation for inspections
Assist Safety department with reporting and corrective actions
Develop SOPs and documentation systems
Maintain a company-wide risk register
Identify patterns and propose prevention measures
Help create structure as the company scales into new divisions
Qualification
Required
3–10 years of experience in compliance, risk, contracts, licensing, operations, or similar fields
Strong documentation and organizational skills
Ability to read contracts and spot risk language
Experience managing workflows with external partners (brokers, regulators, auditors, subcontractors)
Comfortable collaborating with HR, Safety, Finance, and Operations
A proactive mindset and high personal accountability
