R&D Engineer, Global Materials - Value Engineering

Responsibilities

Partner internally with procurement, manufacturing and product development to set raw materials strategy
Foster relationships with key raw material vendors and lead joint development programs with vendors
Understand vendor capabilities for testing and development
Accelerate development programs by leveraging vendor resources
Evaluate new raw materials:
Collaborate with suppliers to understand new raw material technologies
Lead laboratory and pilot-scale assessment of new raw materials
Generate technical reports on resins evaluated, including commercial qualification plans
Work with others in R&D and manufacturing to support commercial scale-up of new raw materials
Support product development by identifying opportunities for cost reduction and/or structure simplification
Use pilot-scale testing to prove feasibility of ideas and move ideas into active programs
Act as the subject-matter expert in raw materials, teaching others in the organization and building up a raw material database and share globally to improve information flow between regions

Required

Knowledge of polymer families such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, and polyester
Understanding of polymer extrusion and structure-process-property relationships in polymers
Bachelor Degree in Material Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering
Graduate work or 1-5 years experience in polymer/film design, testing and/or processing
Travel requirements < 10%
