Quantum Experimentalist Postdoctoral Fellow - 105666

Berkeley Lab’s Applied Mathematics Computational Research Division is seeking a Quantum Experimentalist Postdoctoral Fellow in the Quantum Information Science and Technology Group. This role focuses on the design, calibration, and operation of mid-scale digital superconducting quantum processors for quantum computing applications.

Publishing

Responsibilities

Design and test novel superconducting device components compatible with extensible quantum processors
Analytical and numerical modelling of microwave quantum circuits and signals
Design and conduct state-of-the-art experiments using superconducting quantum processors for quantum information science
Develop scalable calibration methodologies for quantum operations
Troubleshoot noise processes on quantum hardware and design and implement mitigation strategies
Validate, analyze, and interpret experimental data
Firmware development & programming tools to interface with FPGA-based electronics
Quantum verification and validation
Mentorship of and collaboration with student researchers

Required

Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Experience independently planning and completing projects
Relevant publication record and demonstration of proficient written and verbal presentation of scientific results
Knowledge of quantum information science related to one or more of the responsibilities/research areas listed above
Ability to work effectively in a team that includes engineers, scientific staff, technicians, and students
Ability to direct the work of technical support staff or students
Experience using Python based programming tools

Preferred

Ability to prepare periodic updates (written and oral) for internal and external reviews or reports. This includes experience in evaluating scientific narrative, skill in technical writing, and using presentation preparation tools
Experience operating and maintaining a dilution refrigerator
