Responsibilities

Collect and analyze various data sets related to geophysics, geotechnology, atmospheric science, geomechanics, geochemistry, subsurface science, and renewable energy technologies, including wind and wave power, geothermal energy, solar photovoltaics, and concentrating solar
Present summer research at the end-of-summer FORSEES student symposium
Collaborate on research papers, reports, and presentations
Run existing modeling codes and developing new models and algorithms

Required

Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Preferred

B.S. in mathematics, physics, earth sciences, computer science, or a related area
Enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program in mathematics, physics, earth sciences, computer science, or a related area
Exceptional written, oral, and visual communication skills
Proficiency with modern computer languages (e.g. PYTHON, R, MATLAB, C/C++, FORTRAN-XX, MPI, Jupyter, Julia, etc.)
Experience with modular computer software development practices
Experience with laboratory and/or field procedures and protocols
Experience creating research documentation with laboratory notebooks or similar archival methods
Experience with machine learning analysis
