Transmission Planning Engineer

Coalesce Management Consulting is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to support power system studies, grid planning, and reliability analysis for major utilities and energy providers across the Eastern U.S. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the bulk electric system as it transitions to support renewable integration and load growth.

Responsibilities

Perform power flow, stability, and short-circuit studies to evaluate transmission system performance under a variety of conditions
Support long-term transmission expansion planning , reliability assessments, and system reinforcement projects
Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., PSSE, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA ) for system modeling and analysis
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including utilities, system operators, and regulatory bodies
Assess the impact of new generation, renewable energy projects, and load interconnections on the transmission system
Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations
Support regional and interconnection-wide transmission planning processes

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred)
3–7+ years of experience in transmission planning or power system analysis
Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and regional planning processes
Proficiency with one or more power system simulation tools (PSSE, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, ASPEN, etc.)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one
Experience working with utilities, ISOs, or RTOs in the Western U.S. (e.g., CAISO, WECC, or NWPP)
Familiarity with renewable integration studies, inverter-based resource modeling, or HVDC systems
Experience with scripting or automation (Python, MATLAB, PSLF EPCL, PSSE Python API)
Knowledge of production cost modeling or resource adequacy analysis
