Material & Process Engineer (Associate, Mid Level, Senior)

The Boeing Company is seeking a Materials & Process Engineer to join their Integrated Materials & Structures Technology Team. This role involves leading material selection, process development, and troubleshooting for aerospace applications, with a focus on next-generation thermoset composites.

Responsibilities

Support development and optimization of composite materials—prepregs, adhesives, and core materials—and related consumables
Define and validate manufacturing processes (e.g., layup, curing/autoclave/out-of-autoclave processing, consolidation) to be used on production programs
Perform materials characterization and testing: mechanical (tensile, compression, shear), thermal (DMA, TGA, DSC), moisture uptake and microscopy
Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data; prepare test reports and present findings to the team
Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and process control plans for production transitions
Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions for material and process related nonconformances
Conduct supplier evaluations and material qualification activities
Follow safety, quality and environmental procedures in the lab and manufacturing areas

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
2+ years of experience in new material development, insertion, composite manufacturing process development

Preferred

Advanced Engineering degree
Understanding of composite materials and processing methods
Familiarity with standard materials testing methods
Knowledge of composite design considerations and failure modes
Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various engineering departments/disciplines; knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes
Strong problem solving and experimental skills; ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems, sub-systems and designs
Solid written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear test reports and presentations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis tools
Willingness to work in lab/manufacturing environments
