Electronics Technician I - Traffic Services
The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking an Electronics Technician I to support the Traffic Services Office. This role involves the installation and maintenance of traffic control systems and requires the ability to work independently in various environmental conditions.

Responsibilities
Installation, maintenance, and 24-hour emergency repair of electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems
Safe operation of aerial lift vehicle in live traffic
Installing traffic signal equipment, wiring detectors, installing and wiring controllers
Tracing out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble
Dismantling and reassembling components, and replacing worn or faulty parts
Maintaining proper records of all signal work accomplished and keeping an accurate record of time worked and all materials used via computer
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Ability to diagnose source of equipment failures
Ability to repair/maintain a wide variety of complex electrical equipment
Ability to lift up to 80 pounds, shoulder high
Ability to use and operate aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet in height
Ability to perform assigned tasks, understand and follow both oral and written instructions, and comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment
Ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signals and other traffic control devices
Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement or the ability to obtain it within 360 days of the date of hire
Pre-employment drug testing will be required
Completion of a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing
Safety-toed shoes required
Preferred
Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components
Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams
Knowledge of the National Electric Code
Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively, with minimal technical supervision
Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions
