Responsibilities
Own the health, uptime, and performance of PostgreSQL databases across environments
Establish and maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and performance baselines
Identify and drive schema, query, and index optimizations
Troubleshoot and resolve high-priority performance and availability issues
Perform daily DBA tasks including:
Query optimization
Schema change reviews
Index strategy and tuning
Writing automation and maintenance scripts
Ensure scheduled jobs and maintenance tasks run reliably across environments
Review and apply database patches and upgrades
Act as the PostgreSQL subject matter expert
Partner closely with development teams on:
Schema design
Query plans
Index usage
ORM-driven migrations
Participate in code and schema reviews to ensure scalability and performance
Create and maintain clear database documentation and standards
Own HA/DR strategies, backups, and recovery procedures
Ensure databases meet security, auditing, and compliance requirements
Protect sensitive data through best practices in storage, access, and transfer
Qualification
Required
5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including:
Performance tuning
Query and index optimization
Administration and monitoring
Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, configuration, and tooling
Experience with High Availability / Disaster Recovery, backups, and restores
Experience working in AWS or Azure environments
Familiarity with ORMs and schema changes driven through code migrations
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
A true PostgreSQL DBA — hands-on, detail-oriented, and performance-focused
Comfortable being the go-to expert and mentoring others on Postgres
Strong communicator who collaborates well with engineering, SRE, and product teams
Experience operating databases in cloud-based SaaS environments
US work authorization required (no sponsorship / no EAD)
Preferred
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (administration and/or development)
Exposure to Agile development environments
Experience supporting high-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms
