Quality Assurance Technician

The Quality Assurance Technician will conduct routine analysis of coffee production to ensure quality specifications, maintain documentation, and collaborate with manufacturing teams on product quality.

Responsibilities
Performs calibrations for product compliance with regards to color, moisture, grinds, and weights
Records data and test results of production and processing samples
Prepares cuppings and analyzes results
Maintains retention records and samples; handles rotations of in-and-out-of-production locations
Interfaces with production personnel for a variety of quality-related projects, including holds, pulling test samples, and gathering data
Performs various audits and tests from the raw material stage through the finish product to ensure quality
Provides technical support with an emphasis on consumer requirements, continuous product quality, and productivity requirements as well as verification for quality assurance and measurement analysis
Monitors product processing, consistency, and packaging integrity by conducting analytical testing, sensory, product/ingredient sampling, and documents
Administers all points of product specifications as assigned
Acts on any quality noncompliance and records all results of investigations, findings, root cause analysis, and situations that occur within the shift
Places holds on product not within specification by generating hold documents and distributing to the proper personnel; assists in the disposition of Holds when needed
Maintains the QA Hold system daily and daily retention sample procedures for finished goods items
Maintains lab area, which includes inventory of tools, supplies, and chemicals; ensures all measurement analysis equipment is functional and calibrated on a routine basis; make repairs as needed
Monitors and responds to all process operating guidelines and complies with GMP and safety policies
Assists with routine and situational GMP/Food safety inspections, exercises, systems, and /or investigations for any quality, food safety & security concerns
Performs testing of raw material sampling to finish product and sensory evaluation (cuppings)
Performs other duties and special quality-related projects as needed
Qualification
Required
Quality Assurance experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in a food and beverage environment preferred
Some technical and college courses related to food science, biology, or chemistry are required
Associate degree or minimum of four years of experience as a Level II Inspector in a food, chemical, or agricultural manufacturing facility required (unless this is for an internship or college work program)
Previous sensory and taste skills required
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines required
Proficiencies in Microsoft Office and ability to use / learn Quality software programs; competencies in Excel required
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization (both inside and outside of the company)
Strong observation to details with ability to effectively investigate and devise corrective actions
Preferred
Experience in a food and beverage environment preferred
Certified HACCP and SQF training and experience highly preferred
