Responsibilities
Perform detailed transmission line engineering, including structure spotting, sag-tension calculations, and clearance analysis for high-voltage overhead lines
Develop transmission line designs for new construction and reconductor projects across 69kV–500kV systems
Prepare and review plan and profile drawings, structure loading calculations, and material specifications
Utilize industry-standard tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and AutoCAD for line design and modeling
Coordinate with civil, structural, environmental, and right-of-way teams to support constructability and permitting requirements
Support field engineering activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing construction changes, and providing technical guidance during execution
Ensure designs comply with utility standards, NESC requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
Assist with cost estimates, schedules, and engineering deliverables for capital transmission projects
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
3–7+ years of experience in transmission line engineering or overhead line design
Working knowledge of NESC, utility design standards, and transmission construction practices
Proficiency with transmission line design software (PLS-CADD required; PLS-POLE / PLS-TOWER preferred)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, designers, and field construction teams
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
Experience supporting major utilities or EPC firms in the Western U.S
Familiarity with structure foundations, geotechnical coordination, and terrain-driven design challenges
Experience with reconductoring, fiber (OPGW) installations, or structure upgrades
Knowledge of wildfire mitigation standards, clearance upgrades, or resilience hardening programs
Experience with schedule or cost-driven design optimization
