Environmental Intern - Summer 2026!

The State of Wisconsin's Department of Transportation is seeking an Environmental Intern for Summer 2026 to assist in environmental analysis and wetland mitigation efforts. This position involves both fieldwork and office duties, including identifying wetland communities and tracking environmental data.

Responsibilities

Work with wetland mitigation and aid in environmental office duties
Identify existing wetlands, determine wetland losses, and create/restoration of new wetlands
Track various environmental aspects and commitments in a spreadsheet/database
Identify wetland communities and delineate boundaries between wetlands and uplands
Monitor ground and surface water levels and identify wetland soil characteristics
Compile information obtained in the field and from other sources
Communicate information about losses and mitigations to regulatory agencies, the DNR and Army Corps of Engineers
Maintain detailed accurate records to comply with mitigation requirements
Track various environmental aspects

Qualification

Fieldwork experienceMicrosoft OfficeAdministrative supportTeam collaboration

Required

Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) or a similar software
Experience doing fieldwork
Experience working as a member of a team
Experience providing administrative support (such as emailing, researching, document management, etc.)
Legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without agency sponsorship)
At least 18 years of age at the time the internship program begins (May 2026)
Currently enrolled in a 2-year, 4-year, or graduate school
