Postdoctoral Research Associate - Meteorologist
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate - Meteorologist to focus on the development, testing, and deployment of data analysis methods for national security applications. Responsibilities
Conceptualizing and performing research on the variables associated with nuclear fuel-cycle processes
The fate, transport, dispersion, collection, and measurement of such variables
The analysis of these data to more clearly understand the original processes involved
The use and application of AI/ML techniques to national security problems

Qualification
Required
A PhD degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline
A minimum of 1 year of experience with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and the HYbrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integration Transport (HYSPLIT) models
Experience in advanced multivariate techniques
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, a willingness to apply those skills to a variety of problems, and the ability to determine and understand the broader context of his or her research
This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge
For employment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a Real ID compliant form of identification will be required
All employees must also be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card as mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which requires a favorable post-employment background investigation
To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation
Preferred
Proficiency in multiple modern coding languages is preferred; experience using Python, R, and/or OriginLab is highly desirable
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
